5 Pillars of leadership I adhere to

Leadership in user experience design is not only about guiding a team through the design process, but also about fostering a culture of trust, transparency, and collaboration. As a UX lead, it's important to establish trust with your team members, stakeholders, and users.

Empathy and customer centricity

Being caring and having empathy is essential for building trust and fostering a positive team dynamic. Caring about both our team members and our users is crucial for creating a user-centric design process and delivering products that truly meet the needs of our users.

Research, metrics and data

Focusing on our users and translating research, metrics, and data, is crucial for making informed decisions and proving a point. In a fast-paced and ever-changing industry, it can be easy to get caught up in discussions and debates. However, by relying on these points, we can shortcut these discussions and make more effective decisions.

Mentoring and Teaching

Mentoring is essential for developing the skills and abilities of our team members. By providing guidance, support, and feedback, we can help our team members grow and reach their full potential. Teaching is crucial for developing the skills and abilities of our team members. By setting up a growth path and sharing our knowledge and experiences, we can help our team members learn and improve their skills.

A safe UX enviroment

Creating a UX environment, is essential for maturing the UX process and promoting a culture of healthy critique and feedback. This can include creating sales pitches, being proactive, setting up a UX newsletter and creating an environment that encourages the team to give and receive feedback.

Problem Solving approach

Shifting the mindset from solution thinking to a more problem focussed approach can greatly aid an organisation in determining priorities. Additionally, by establishing a clear vision and encouraging experimentation, leaders can inspire their team to think creatively and proactively address emerging trends, ultimately propelling the company forward and distinguishing it in the marketplace.

Adhering to these five pillars allows me to create a strong and effective leadership that delivers products that truly meet the needs of our users and builds a team that is well-equipped to handle the challenges of the industry.
